El Moro Canyon hiking – Crystal Cove State Park
Southern California is synonymous with sun, sand, and surf. Its miles of beautiful beach and near perfect weather year-round are big draws for visitors.
In recent years, the one spot along the coast that seems to garner quite a bit of activity is Crystal Cove State Park. This now historic site and state park was once a quite little cove of beach cottages. Locals primarily used the beach and occasionally a few horseback riders would venture down from the Irvine Equestrian Center, which once stretched along Pacific Coast Highway (now the Ocean North course of Pelican Hill Golf Club). There seem to be two main reasons for the attention Crystal Cove receives: the beach and the backcountry. The beach is an artist’s dream and the backcountry is the California of yesteryear.
